Today we took the boys to a small Renaissance Fair on Fort Bragg. The Fair itself was pretty small. It was the company that made it a good time. We met up with some other twin families and had a great time. The boys were kind of hot and cranky, but overall, I think they enjoyed being outside all day. There were some, ummm, I guess you could call it, interesting people there. I HATE Turkey legs!! I cringe every time I see people walking around with Turkey Legs! S kept pointing people out to me every time someone would walk by us devouring a Leg. Gross!
This is going to be one crazy week for the boys! Sadly, G's D-AFO's don't fit right and he has to get re-casted. I'm not looking forward to it. It's just what it sounds like. They use the same plaster and bandages they use to cast a broken leg. They're also making him a knee brace or sleeve of some sort to help keep his leg straight since it turns in and drags. I would really like to bubble wrap him! On a good note, he's been making a lot more babbling sounds lately and keeps trying to stand! The downside to the attempts at standing...he falls and smashes his face into the floor :(
L had been doing great! He's such a ham! That boy needs his sleep or he's a big grump! Hmmm...kind of like how S is, when he doesn't get enough sleep. I really think OT is helping with his SPD. He's a rock star! He's still not making many sounds, but he'll get there. I know he will.
Tomorrow we'll be seeing one of S's old friends that moved away a couple of years ago. The last time he saw the boys they were just itty bitties. Hopefully they'll nap tomorrow morning so they won't be cranky all afternoon! Wish us luck!!!
Just Another Day in G & L's World

Fighting and biting, Oh My!
Today started out like a normal day, the usual, biting, pushing and
fighting. Followed by giggles and laughter, only to be followed again
by fighting. Oh the life of Twoddlers. The boys were being
ridiculously cute so I decided to run and get my camera. Just as I was
in the middle of snapping the camera, G pushed L down and it was all
captured in this painful looking picture. Luckily, after about 3 minutes of crying, L was perfectly fine and went on about his day.
They we big crank pots the rest of the day. They had OT today, and for the first time ever G, was able to put two rings on the ring holder! Huge accomplishment for him! I know a lot of you may think, but deal, my six month old does that, but for a boy with developmental delays, SPD and possible CP, that's a HUGE deal! He's been trying to do a little independent standing as well. He doesn't get past a squat, but again, HUGE deal! This boy does not give up! He also decided he doesn't like sleeves anymore and keeps pulling his arms out of the top of his shirts. He's going to be a streaker for a living.
L had discovered the art of temper tantrums. I knew it was going to start sooner or later. I'm not just talking screaming while staring at me to see what I do, I'm talking throwing himself on the floor while kicking and screaming. I got up to walk out of the room, and he followed me and did it again. I don't think so kid, this momma isn't falling for it. Once he realized that, he stopped and went to fight, oops I mean play with his brother.
They both had their 18 month appointment yesterday. Luckily it was only two shots, and they're done with shots til their 4, except for the flu shot. They did pretty well with them. Much better then the 15 month shots! They are big boys! L is 28.5 pounds and 32 inches while G is 29 pounds and 33 inches! Where did my itty bitty preemies go? I remember the first time we could put clothes on them. The preemie size was falling off of them. Now they're almost all grown out of there size 18 summer clothes!
Tomorrow is another round of PT! I'm thinking after their afternoon nap, we'll do something fun! It's been beautiful this week and they need to get some sunshine!

Say what?
Today started out perfect, the boys slept well last night, they were in a good mood...at least for an hour or so, then the fighting began. Hitting, punching pushing, screaming...oh twins! One minute they're laughing and giggling together, the next it's like a UFC fight, minus the blood and unconsciousness. Thank goodness for that!
They met with a new speech therapist today. We loved her! It normally takes L I while to warm up to people (just ask LHF!!), but he loved her! We think he may have even said "bye" in some weird raspy Leland voice. It's so hard to tell if they're trying to say something or just making noise to be heard. I like to believe they are having full conversations with each other about life and philosophy, even though it's probably about how crazy I am, and I'm sure they're wondering why I talk to myself all day and then force them to have dance parties with me everyday after lunch. Hey, being a SAHM, you need to do something to help the days go by! Anyway, I just needed to throw in this picture of L meeting LHF for the first time.

G had a bit of a rough day today. He is HATING is D-AFO's. I think it's going to take him a while to get used to them. He just sat in his walker and had no interest in trying to walk. Poor kid, like I said, tough cookie but as stubborn as can be. Hopefully he gets used to them soon.
Tomorrow they have the pedi, oh the joys of 18 month shots! It's not an easy task to wrangle twins getting shots. Think of mass hysteria! One sets the other one off and it's all down hill for the rest of the day. After they'll get tylonal and momma will get some vodka and valume!
Being that today was a long, draining day, the highlights were L throwing a tantrum in the middle of the living room (laying on the floor kicking and screaming) because I wouldn't let him eat dog food (how mean of me) and G screaming for 20 minutes because I took The Hubs shoe away from him and he wanted to chew the show lace. You would have thought I just told him we were going to the Dr. Oh wait, that's tomorrow!
Oh one more thing, if you see a kid out in public going crazy and freaking out (there's a good chance it's one of mine) but just remember, there may be a reason they are acting out besides being brat. SPD can reek havoc on kids in public. Anytime I pull into a tight space, or in a store, L becomes terrified! We get tons of crazy looks and I often get the eye. Sorry if my kids offend you but, on top of being toddlers, they have SPD.
Ok, preaching about SPD is over. Now I have to go watch some mindless TV, and think about second birthday party themes for their second birthday, that's six months away.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
The sun is shining, it's a cool 81 degrees, the windows are open, the dogs are outside enjoying the cool weather, and the boys, well, they're taring the house apart at the moment. It's what they do best.
My misson for today is to find the boys some shoes. Greyson got his new leg braces, so his shoes don't fit! He originally was wearing SMO's. They go right above the ankle but they weren't giving him enough support so he just got some D- AFO D-AFO's are wide and clunky. This poor kid looks like he has ginormous feet!! He's a 4.5w shoe but with these braces, I think he'll need a 7, if not an 8. Leland just wears little orthotic insoles that go inside his shoes to help with bowing. No biggie.
The old brace is on the left and the new one is on the right. We, well, I really wanted the black skull and cross bone design, because G is so bad ass, but they didn't have that one available when we got these made, so he's our little solder instead.
The hubs is away on a TDY for work, but will be back today! WOOHOO!!! When he gets back I am out that door! This momma needs a break. I love being with the tiny humans all day, but sometimes I need some time to myself. Doesn't everyone?
Yesterday I forgot to introduce our two wonderful fur babies!!! Lucy, otherwise known as "The Goose" and Penny. The Goose is almost 4 and Penny is almost 3. They make furballs the size of tumble weed, and think they are 40 pound lap dogs but they are complete awesome sauce! Here they are wondering around in the sunshine.
The Goose is the one who is mooning you! She's the sweetest, smartest dog I've ever met. She sheds like a shedding machine (what's a shedding machine?) but she's gotten me through some very tough times. Penny, well, for anyone who knows her. She's just Penny. Whiney, attention starved and perhaps has a bit of OCD, but she's super snuggly. The best part about them is they are awesome with the tiny humans. We were so worried they wouldn't like the babies, but they do great with them. We can't complain.
G has been practicing using his walker a lot! He gets tired in it pretty quickly but it's doing it's job. Since he's hypo-tonic, he tends to through himself back when he's tired. His favorite place to be in laying on his back while holding something between his feet ( I know quite a few people who like to lay on their backs to much with their feet, oh never mind). Here's the lovebug taking a cruise.
Due to L's SPD, he's very sensitive to touch. He doesn't like having his hands touched...at all. So we've been working on hand holding with him. Sometimes he fights it but he's been getting a lot better with it! He still wants to run off every chance he gets, but don't all toddlers? Here's L, the love muffin walking with The Hubs. The cuteness of it all just kills me! I DIE! The two of them are like two peas in a pod. He loves his Daddy. G is more of a momma's boy :)
So, tomorrow is Monday and our crazy week begins. Monday and Friday speech, Tue the Pedi, Wed OT, and Thur PT. I wonder what kind of crazyness they'll tell me this week? We also have a meeting Monday for Parents of Special Needs kids. Its a small local group I found and I'm glad I did. They are all amazing parents! I'm blessed for knowing them.
Just a side note for today, it's GRANDPARENTS DAY!!! My parents are freaking awesome to my little family! They would do anything for us. They should get a cookie today or something. Sugar Free of course ;)
Also a Happy Grandparents Day to the Hubs Parents. This picture was pre cranial helmets, so don't mind the crazy shaped heads!
Just in case you were starting to wonder what they look like with their Carnail Helmets...FREAKING ADORABLE!!

Here we go...I'm blogging!!!!
So, this is my first attempt ever at writing a blog! I need to thank my wonderful Friend A for giving me the push to do this! A little background on us:
S (the hubs) and I have been together for eight years. We've struggled with infertility and miscarriage. It's been a wild ride. In the end, it all paid off. We were blessed with amazing twin boys G & L (the tiny humans). They are amazing, and the love of our lives. I never knew it was possible to love these tiny humans so much. They decided to enter the world a bit early...eight weeks to be exact. They've been fighters since day one, and will continue to fight their way through life. S and I will be there every step of the way.
The boys are now 18 months and amaze us every day. G is suspected to have mild CP (cerebal Palsy) and SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder). He just started crawling <3, can is starting to use a walker. I AM SO PROUD OF HIM! I can not say that enough! He is the toughest cookie I've ever met. Watching him makes me a stronger person. L also has SPD, SVT (Super Ventricle Tachycardia) and the Doctors believe he may be on the low end of the autism scale. Regardless, he is my love muffin. He's carefree and loving and lights up a room!
The Tiny Humans have turned our world upside down...in the best way possible! They works so hard, see so many Doctors (Cardiologist, neurologist, nephrologist, ENT, Ophthalmologist, and a Geneticist...oh my!). They are also going through tons of therapy (Speech, OT, PT, Food Therapy and soon Hippotherapy!!) What is Hippotherapy you may ask? It's PT with horses! The therapist use the horses to help them with balance and confidence. It's really amazing what they can do.
I think S and I sometimes wonder if we did something wrong to have two amazing babies who are special needs. On good days we know, we did nothing wrong, on bad days, it's hard not to blame ourselves. Is it because we're not religious? Did fertility treatments? Didn't do enough for them while they were in the NICU or when they first came home? Sometimes we just want to know why. Why will do these tiny humans have to struggle. In our eyes, they will always be perfect. They are prefect, amazing, spectacular, lovable, snuggable, huggable tiny humans! I hope this blog will allow you all to love them as much as we do!!
